Advanced machining processes has significant contributions to the manufacturing industries, especially since many new invented materials have advanced properties, which are difficult to machine using conventional machining processes. Therefore, advanced machining processes take a lead in dealing with these types of material. This book focuses on electrical machining and electrical dressing processes. Chapter 1 explains the electrochemical machining (ECM), includes process parameters that involved in the ECM processes. Chapter 2 deals with another advanced machining process, i.e. electro-discharge machining (EDM). Several process parameters that contribute to the EDM processes are also discussed. Electrical dressing is described in Chapter 3 as a special application of ECM and EDM. Finally, other types of non-conventional machining are explained in Chapter 4. Now in a concise edition created expressly for students and general readers, this widely hailed study traces the transformation of the tropics in modern times. Exploring the central role of the United States in the ongoing devastation of tropical lands, Richard P. Tucker highlights the unrelenting pressure caused by the demands of U.S. consumerism. The forced domestication of varied natural systems ultimately led to a devastating decline in biodiversity. The author brings his analysis to life with a series of vivid case studies of sugar, bananas, coffee, rubber, beef, and timber—each a virtual empire in itself. All readers who are interested in environmental degradation and its links to the world economy will be enlightened by this nuanced history.

This book is divided into three main parts and an epilogue. The first part of the book provides a context for the readers to understand the underlying background of our work. Chapter 1 gives a brief overview about wayang kulit, whereas second chapter introduces the field of digital humanities that has particularly touched the art of wayang kulit. The second part of the book is focused on the engineering design in wayang kulit, particularly related to the methods we developed to display 3D shadow images. The third chapter qualitatively explains the phenomenon of colour-based stereoscopic shadows, which form the basis of 3D shadow images. In the fourth chapter we start to describe quantitative...

Durga's Mosque

For two decades now, Stephen C. Headley has been one of the most original and systematic ethnographers of Javanese religion and cultural history. No one in contemporary Javanese ethnography has combed through the annals of nineteenth and twentieth century scholarship with as careful an eye for the variety of Javanese traditions. None combines this historical ethnography with as careful and unusual body of contemporary ethnography. Headley's new book brings these long-developed skills to bear on contemporary religious change in the Surakarta region of Central Java. In his analysis of the Durga ritual complex, Headley sheds light on one of the most unusual court traditions to have survived in ...

Incorporating a rich series of case-studies covering a range of geographical areas, this collection of essays examines the history of modern intellectuals in the Islamic world throughout the twentieth century. The contributors reassess the typology and history of various scholars, providing significant diachronic analysis of the different forms of communication, learning, and authority. While each chapter presents a separate regional case, with an historically and geographically different background, the volume discloses commonalities, similarities and intellectual echoes through its comparative approach. Consisting of two parts, the volume focuses first on al-Manar, the influential journal published between 1898 and 1935 that inspired much imagination and arguments among local intelligentsias all over the Islamic world. The second part discusses the formation, transmission and transformation of learning and authority, from the Middle East to Central and Southeast Asia. Constituting a milestone in comparative studies of the modern Islamic world, this book highlights the range of and transformation in the role of intellectuals in Islamic societies.

It is very common in the traditional community in Indonesia that women sometimes act as real women. This is based on the root word of women, empu, meaning as individuals who are to be honoured greatly. In this case the role of women are very central. I found that this philosophical means of women has on Naniek Widayati. She does not appear as a genuine woman only, nor as a person who does ordinary works. Even though she grew up as a daughter of a Batik entrepreneur in Laweyan, Surakarta, her characteristics were not merely influenced by those environmental. It has been proved by completing her doctoral dissertation recently. Through her sensitivity in art, culture, and space that she obtaine...
